Sunday was a gorgeous day in the Chicago area, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to check out Boo! at the Zoo at Brookfield Zoo, one of the Chicagoland family-friendly activities happening in the month of October. Boo! at the Zoo is on weekends until October 27, so there’s still time to check it out.
I loved seeing the changing leaves as we walked around.
The line of cars at the main parking lot was backed up when we arrived, but it didn’t take long to park and walk into the zoo. Members get free parking and admission, so we also saved time by skipping the ticket lines.
Kids and adults are encouraged to wear their costumes, and you can also take part in the costume parade at 1 p.m. Other activities include pumpkin smashing every hour, dancing near the stage, and candy stations. The candy stations were scattered around the zoo and we only saw five of them. There are also sponsored tents that have giveaways as well, but we only visited one of those. You’ll notice many of the animals were given a pumpkin snack, too.
V chose not to wear her costume because we were afraid it would get dirty or rip, so she instead wore a Halloween shirt and bow. I also didn’t dress A up since I thought it would be a bit chilly, though it ended up being kind of warm.
It’s a popular event and you should be prepared for crowds. The line for lunch was also long, so it’s smart to bring your own food. A mai tai was a nice treat for me as we walked around; it was tasty! (Members get a discount on food, FYI!)
A wagon or stroller is also handy for walking around as little feet can get tired. The girls were wiped on our drive home and we had some nice quiet time as they napped. Parenting win.
Have you been to Boo! at the Zoo!
Admission: Adults:$21.95 ($20.95 online); seniors 65 and older: $15.95 ($14.95 online); children 3 to 11: $15.95 ($14.95 online). Some activities are at additional cost.
