Staying motivated is difficult when you’re just not feeling it. And although that might be OK on some days, it’s not so much when you have work and things to do, whether it’s at home or within the workplace. Sometimes lacking motivation is not an option. So how do you fix this? I’m sharing tips to get motivated when you’re struggling. Hopefully this post will help you to get yourself back on track and where you need to be.
First, set goals. Setting goals helps spark that motivation in you. It gives you a reason to dig deep and find that inspiration to get the work done. These goals could be a mix of both big and small. Think about what goals are going to help get you there, and perhaps add small rewards along the way. It could be that you plan to focus on specific tasks for the day, or it might be that you spend a certain amount of hours on your work and then give yourself intermittent breaks to help break up the day.
Goals are always going to be helpful in getting motivated and making sure you don’t slip off the wagon. However, if those current goals aren’t working to improve your situation, then you could always try something else. Goals don’t have to be set in stone.
Work on the Hard Tasks First
Hard tasks can seem daunting and are likely stopping you from getting the work done in the first place. It’s important to try to focus on getting those most important and difficult tasks done when you can and when you have more energy, because that way you’re going to use your momentum from that point forward. It’s going to likely drive up your motivation knowing that you’ve accomplished a lot already and that you’ve only got a few more things to do before you’re finished for the day or week.
We naturally try to do the easy things first for fear of simply starting that hard task and getting overwhelmed or bored. However, coming at it from an attitude of getting the harder work done and having less to do in the latter part of the day is definitely going to help. Keeping this mindset will help with your motivation.
Address what’s holding you back, whether physical, mental or something else. For example, if you’re unmotivated due to sore or tired eyes, you may want to click here to get the right eyewear so that you can get through everything quickly and easily. If you need more tools or help to accomplish something, ask for them or seek help from a coach, coworker, teacher or friend.
Committing to things publicly can be a powerful motivational tool. It makes it a lot harder to back out. Why? Because people will know if you’ve completed the task. They will know if you succeed or give up. It can be a good idea to tell people when you’re aiming to do something because it holds you accountable. Whether you say it vocally to a colleague or share it on social media, make a commitment in public. Of course, sometimes we plan out too much and we overwhelm ourselves with work. That’s OK, but overall it can be motivating to share your goals with others.
Find Ways To Relieve Boredom
Relieving boredom is important when you’re not feeling that motivated. If you’ve tried all the above and you’re still not getting much out of your day, then give into procrastination. That is your body and mind telling you that you’re not going to get things done just yet until you indulge yourself with some boredom busters. So with that being said, try to find things that can help relieve that bored feeling you have, whether that’s working out, knocking out that purchase you’ve been meaning to make, having a chat with a colleague in the kitchen, reading, or browsing articles on news or social media sites.
Get Inspired By Others
Inspiration can really help pick up motivation when you’re not feeling it. Think about those people that inspire you and consider getting their advice or watching what they’re doing. It can be an instant mood booster and perhaps the kick you need to get yourself feeling more inspired in your own work. Surround yourself with inspirational books and people.
