My baby is almost one. This past year has been the quickest of my life and it was important for me to mark the milestone with a party even though she won’t remember it. Adelina’s first birthday is later this week, but we celebrated early with a doughnut first birthday party last weekend. We were happy to have some family drive up to Chicago from Louisville for the sweet occasion.

I chose a doughnut theme using mainly decorations from Party City. The Donut Grow Up and doughnut balloons were from an Etsy shop and I found a gold one balloon at Target. I filled them using a straw or hand pump instead of using helium. I also used a tablecover as a low-cost backdrop for photos along with the balloons. I had seen expensive options online but I just couldn’t bring myself to buy them.

Firecakes in Chicago, which has multiple locations, offers a birthday doughnut ($12.50 plus tax) that we used for Adelina’s cake. I placed it on a mini pink cake stand I purchased from Marshall’s. Her first taste of sugar did not disappoint. She especially loved the sprinkles.

I also found a Treat Yourself doughnut display stand on Etsy that I loved. I placed it on the cake/gifts table (our server). It looks like wood, but it’s actually more like cardboard. It was still super cute, though. You put it together yourself, and the doughnuts hang on mini pegs.

For the party food I went with a charcuterie board and fruits and veggies as a counterbalance for the doughnuts. I also had dip and chips and a birthday cake that I made, in case we didn’t have enough doughnuts.

I found Addi’s doughnut ONE birthday dress on Amazon recently for under $10. It came with a matching headband that she wore for approximately five minutes. Her shoes were only $6 from Old Navy recently.

We had a blast even though many of our friends and family are out of state and could not make it. What’s important is that we celebrated making it through the first year and having such a sweet little one as part of our family.

In addition to Firecakes, I also picked up doughnuts from Dunkin’ Donuts, because who doesn’t look them?

What do you think of the theme? Don’t these doughnuts look amazing?
