It's an exciting time to be a Phoenician. The Big Game and the Phoenix Open drew hordes of tourists, and there was no shortage of events for locals to attend as well (if you wanted to shell out the cash). I'm not into spending money to see a celebrity show up to a club past midnight and stay for half an hour (depending on the celebrity), so I opted to attend the free Roots show at Super Bowl ... Rave Run 2013
I went to a rave last night. It was the after-party for the Rave Run in downtown Phoenix. As I quickly realized, this run was more about the rave than running. Runners were decked out in glow-in-the-dark gear and outfits in all colors of the rainbow. It seemed to be a popular run, though somewhat unorganized. I couldn't discern what an announcer was directing the runners to do just before the start ... Read more
Arizona Rattlers postseason game
The only suitable word to describe the crowd at my first Rattlers arena-football game is electric. And plenty of pyrotechnics accompany the hollering fans. The first canonlike sound that emanated from the arena had me jumping from my seat. But as the game went on, I got more comfortable and excited about the outcome. Overall it was a fun, exciting experience. I will be back next season. ... Read more
Chase Field: Astros vs. D-Backs
I'm not what some may call a seat snob -- I think most seats at Chase Field are good and am happy just to be in the ballpark to watch the Diamondbacks play. I recently took advantage of cheap prices on upper-level seats on StubHub to snag a couple of tickets. We were in the second row of Section 302, with no one occupying the seats below us, and the views were great! The Astros vs. D-Backs game was ... Read more

My first half: 3TV Phoenix 10K and Half Marathon
If someone would have told me two years ago I would go on to run a half marathon I wouldn't have believed it. I detested running. It's hard. But last year I adjusted my attitude and signed up for Pat's Run, mostly to force myself to get some exercise after sitting in a cubicle most of my week. The thrill of racing with thousands of others lured me in, and I kept it up. After successfully ... Read more

Trying Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix
You will likely wait for an hour and a half, on a good day, but many people will tell you Pizzeria Bianco is worth it. Those people may be drunk, considering they are likely starved and spent that time next door at Bar Bianco sipping on wine. That was me. When I finally bit into my margherita pizza, which I enjoyed all to myself, I felt it was in fact one of the best pizzas I've had. Was it the ... Read more
