I have been slacking when it comes to decorating the office/guest room. I recently realized that is why I didn’t feel inspired. I needed a brighter space to work on editing and blogging. When Stencil Revolution contacted me to try their stencils, I was excited for the opportunity to create my own wall art and make my workspace a happier and more motivating space.
Stencil Revolution was kind enough to gift me Arizona, Kentucky, Hawaii and turtle stencils. I chose them because Graham and I are from Louisville and Phoenix, and because we were married in Hawaii, our favorite place. Turtles are my favorite animal (and they are abundant in Hawaii) and I wanted to have one in my office/guest room as well. I decided to use acrylic paints and 12- x 12-inch white canvases for my project. I made sure to use painter’s tape to secure the stencil onto the canvas, but clamps would also work. Be sure to hold down the stencil and not to pick up too much paint on your brush to avoid bleeding under the stencils. In just minutes each I was able to create vibrant pieces to hang on my wall. The stencils I received appear to be durable and you can clean them off after each use. (I used nail polish remover to clean one of them.) What’s even more nice is that I can always switch out my decor by purchasing another one of Stencil Revolution’s acrylic stencils. I plan to order an Alaska stencil for a certain gift I have in mind for later in the year, for example. I think many of these stencil designs would look amazing in white paint on dark wood, too.
The Arizona and Kentucky canvases hang next to Chicago and Phoenix prints we have above our guest bed.
The turtle and Hawaii canvases are now above my desk next to a colorful print of a Roald Dahl quote I bought years ago. Seeing them along with our Maui wedding photos daily reminds me to keep working hard so that our family can continue to travel there as often as possible.
I am feeling much more inspired now that my office/guest room is getting closer to being complete. I can’t wait to find a more suitable desk, a new ceiling light pendant and curtains to finish off the design.
Want to see the before? You won’t believe what the bedroom looked like when we bought the house …
While I chose to use paint and canvases, there is no limit to what you could accomplish with these stencils. You sprice up your tile, a wall, wood —anything! The stencils allow anyone, even those who may not be as artistic, to create beautiful pieces. I certainly am not a painter but the stencils allowed me to have fun creating something I think looks nice in my office.
