What kind of entertainment have you been enjoying lately? If you’ve been stuck at home you might be looking for a way to pass the time. You may have noticed that GoodReads is booming with tens of thousands of members reading books and commenting on the group forums. However, you also have lots of streaming services to explore that have been doing their best to make shows that you have never seen before. And some of the older ways of staying mentally stimulated, such as puzzle, have seen a surge in popularity. If you’re looking for entertainment at home, here are three options:
New streaming option
The newest kid on the block regarding streaming is Discovery. This is a mix of documentaries, popular shows such as nature shows, and scientific exploration. It’s rivaling streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Sky. Discover is mainly focused on factual programming like documentaries, real-world shows, business, behind the scenes, etc. But is Discovery Plus worth it? If you are into reality-based shows such as how to flip houses, getting into business for the first time and watching nature documentaries, then yes. It’s the new kid that is trying to carve out a niche. There are 55,000 episodes of 22,000 different shows. So far it has amassed 12 million subscribers and it’s still growing. One of the shows I watch on Discovery Plus is The Johnnyswim Show from the Magnolia Network From Chip and Joanna Gaines.
Fun with the family
If you are on the edge of boredom, then why not have some fun with the family? Think of a project you could do that would stir everybody up. It might be something like a domino challenge. Make a domino line around the entire house, from the bottom floor up to the first and or second floors. This could take you all day and each new room presents a new stage. It could be great to also make something new such as a garden project. You can also a fun new puzzle to complete as a family or play classic games such as Jenga.
Book clubs
During the pandemic and even now, we are seeing more and more people turn off the TV and start reading new and exciting books. It’s a great way to lose yourself in an imaginary world, be challenged by concepts you never thought of and discover a new character or place. Google Play Books is popular because it’s a free service and you can access it cross-platform. GoodReads is a thriving group of fellow readers who talk about the books they read. You can join specific groups like horror, fiction or groups made for particular books like “To Kill A Mockingbird.” I often find book recommendations on social media.
How have you been keeping yourself busy these days? Let us know how you are keeping mentally stimulated.
