Making our house a home has been a slow but satisfying process so far. Graham and I love doing much of the work ourselves, which makes it all incredibly rewarding and saves money. We take our time selecting each item that we buy to make sure that our space ends up being what we envisioned and we have loved the results. I’m sharing my favorite purchases we’ve made for our home at this point and why I think they were good investments.
Arlo Pro wireless security camera system: We really wanted cameras in our house so that we could monitor our home when we are on vacation or simply away from the house. Since then we’ve also started using one of the cameras as a baby monitor because the monitor we had an issue with staying charged. I like that I can check each camera on my phone via an app, take photos and video, and speak through my phone using the two-way audio. We purchased the three-camera system, but you can order however many cameras you need at varying prices. The system also came with a home base that plugs into your router. We can easily move the cameras around to wherever we need them, or we can mount them. They are wireless so you don’t have a mess of wires. They also have night vision. This investment gives up peace of mind, so it’s worth the money.

Tufted linen wingback bed: I love the look of an upholstered bed. This was perfect and not too expensive. It had positive reviews and we found it to be great quality. This bed comes in three color options. If we ever want to upgrade our bed this will go into the guest room, so we will have it for many years.
Vanity set with mirror: This was a gift from Graham for Christmas. I didn’t think I needed a vanity but it’s definitely nice to have and it’s been an incentive to wear makeup and actually get ready for the day/focus on self-care, which is something I had been neglecting last year. I plan to eventually switch out the hardware, but I love this vanity.
White oak dining room server: Our kitchen doesn’t have much storage, so many of our glassware items and serving platters were in boxes in the basement collecting dust. I wanted to have a space for them and this server matches our dining room table perfectly. It has a farmhouse style to it that we love and we will have this for a long, long time.
Dining room farmhouse rectangular light fixture: We chose a farmhouse-style light fixture for our dining room. I love it! We also use vintage-style bulbs and I think it really pulls the space together. We have received many compliments on it. Graham was able to install this himself. (We still need to adjust the cord and length.)
Graphite exterior door: When we purchased our home it had an older door with a broken window pane. We didn’t know the glass was broken when we did our final walk-through after our home purchase, so that was an unpleasant surprise when we moved in. We wanted to replace the door to be more secure anyway, and we know this door will be more sturdy. Graham was able to install it himself, too. We also purchased a Quikset SmartCode deadbolt for the door to make it more secure.
Our place is slowly coming together and I can’t wait to show reveals of our dining room and downstairs bathroom soon.
