There’s nothing better than taking a random weekday off for no reason at all, except deciding to visit The Field Museum Chicago. The museum has a new exhibition called Jurassic Oceans: Monsters of the Deep, which closes Sept. 5, 2022.

The ticket to this special exhibit is in addition to the general admission ticket, so we chose the Discovery Pass, which gives you the option of seeing a 3D movie or one of the four ticketed exhibitions.

Jurassic Oceans: Monsters of the Deep is for all ages. It has various stations where people (and especially kids) are encouraged to touch replicas.

All the actual “monsters,” which are actual prehistoric underwater creatures, are protected in glass cases. Throughout you’ll see videos, signs and all sorts of displays in dim lighting that matches the mood.

You’ll see giant marine reptiles, crocodiles, sharks, and creatures you might not have heard about before. The exhibition has more than 100 specimans ranging in size from tiny creatures to 22-foot-long animals. It even has the skull of a mosasaur, which the museum says was the “T. rex of the sea.”

Jurassic Oceans: Monsters of the Deep was curated and produced by the Natural History Museum, London.
