If you want to make sure you are making good use of your ingredients and cut down your food waste, it mostly comes down to simply paying more attention when you are cooking and shopping for food. Here are some ways to make the most of your ingredients:
Use the whole product
For pretty much everything that you cook with, you should be able to find a way to use all of it easily. For instance, if you are using broccoli, consider saving the stem to make a broccoli sauce for pasta. Or when you roast a chicken, save anything you don’t use for a delicious homemade chicken stock recipe. That will help you make much more of the ingredients you are using in your daily cooking.
Plan your meals better
The more effectively you plan your meals, the more likely it is that you are going to use your ingredients right, so this is another thing that you should make sure you are thinking about. Planning your meals is the kind of thing that you can do very easily and simply, and yet it will make a huge difference to how many ingredients you use. Make sure that you are thinking ahead and including every ingredient you might need into your plans.
Only use what you need
Make a conscious effort to use less of whatever you are using to ensure that you are wasting less food. You might be surprised at what a difference it really makes, and you will probably find you have a better portion control.
Try out different cuisines
You might find that different cuisines tend to use ingredients in all sorts of different ways. Because of that, there is something to be said for trying out as many different cuisines as you can, so that you can effectively make sure that you are going to have a much better approach to your use of ingredients.
