For my birthday, I wanted to buy my first Athleta pieces. The more I read about the quality of Athleta, the more I wanted to try its clothing. As part of my gift Graham took me to the store to browse and and I’m so grateful to have found three items I love. I’m sharing my first Athleta purchases and why I chose to shop there.
I recently watched a documentary titled “The True Cost” that talks about the impact of consumerism on our environment and garment workers. While the price of making clothes has dropped over the years, the human and environmentally costs have increased dramatically. Since learning more about this subject, I have become more interested in purchasing higher-quality items that will last for years rather than cheap pieces of clothing that I can wear for a season until they rip. This aligns with my goal to be more intentional and minimalistic when making purchases. I have recently read reviews about Athleta clothing being durable and well made, so I wanted to see for myself.
I also wanted to try Athleta because it is a B Corp. I learned that 60 percent of its materials are made with sustainable fibers, with a goal of increasing that to 80 percent. I love when companies are taking steps to be more sustainable and empower women.
As soon as I felt the pieces in my own hands in store, I felt a difference. The materials for each item I tried on were super soft and cozy. While clothing tends to have a higher cost when it’s made well, it will perform much better and thus reduce clothing waste. I immediately liked the Trekkie North Jogger, which I purchased in cognac brown. I loved the color and that it’s made of recycled materials. These pants seemed perfect for everyday wear as well as travel and hiking. I loved that they have zip pockets and a drawstring. They fit so comfortably on the waist.
I also purchased the “unstinkable” Speedlight Snake Skin long-sleeve top. It’s sort of fitted but not too fitted, if that makes sense. It also has thumbholes, my favorite feature! The material is super soft and moisture wicking. It’s also rated UPF 50+. Lastly I picked up the Organic Daily Crop Tee because I loved the Mulberry color and it fit so comfortably. It hits at just the right length for my preference. It was also 30 percent off!

So far I am loving the pieces. They are comfortable and I hope they will last me a long time. Have you shopped Athleta?
