Last weekend I had a chance to participate in a workout fundraiser at Barry’s Bootcamp in Lincoln Park. Nimbe, a blogger I follow on Instagram (@fitfooddreams) who is running the Chicago Marathon as a part of a charity team, was raising funds for Latinos Progresando. I have been enjoying trying new fitness classes lately, so trying Barry’s Bootcamp was exciting, and helping a great cause was a bonus.
It’s best to sign up for a class ahead of time, but I signed my waiver at the studio when I arrived. The gym was closed for the special event, which featured goody bags from many sponsors. Once I checked in, I was told I would be starting class on the floor and given a station number with a corresponding treadmill for the running part of class. There’s also an option to do a double-floor class, which means you don’t run on the treadmill at all. You’re also handed a towel as you walk into class.
The coach did a great job of guiding both parts of class without any confusion and he demonstrated each exercise. I was never lost or confused about what to do. He also gave options to modifty each move. We switched between the floor workouts and the treadmills three times during the hourlong class for a well-rounded workout. We used dumbells of various weights as well as straps and the benches.
On the treadmill we did various sprints for different lengths. We also sometimes ran at inclines. The instructor was motivating and encouraged us to add .5 to the speed each round of sprints. I ran at my fastest speed on a treadmill EVER during class. I definitely feel like I pushed myself.
After class, Nimbe held a drawing for prizes from various sponsors, and I won a bag from Vooray. It’s a nice gym bag that will come in handy. The class raised $1,700 for Latinos Progresando!
The goody bag contained items such as protein bars, coupons, and cards for free classes at Chicago fitness studios.
Barry’s also has a smoothie bar in the front where you can order your pre- or post-workout beverage or snack of choice. They also have changing rooms, grooming products, clothing to purchase, and showers.
I loved the class at Barry’s Bootcamp and can’t wait to take another class sometime. Have you taken a class at Barry’s yet? Barry’s has locations around the country and world!
