100 things I love about Arizona
In honor of Arizona's centennial Feb. 14, I wrote a list of reasons I love my home state. I was inspired by azcentral.com's list. These are in no particular order. 1. Havasupai waterfalls: The most beautiful place in the state and worth the 10-mile hike. Can't wait to go back this year! 2. Spring training: The most wonderful time of the year in the Valley. Baseball, friends, gorgeous weather, food, booze. What more can you ask ... Read the Post...
Hiking at White Tank Mountain Regional Park
White Tank Mountain Regional Park is one of the most gorgeous parks I've seen in the Valley. The views as sunset approaches are incredible, especially the light over the peaks. I found some trails suitable for beginners in mountain biking, too. As you look to the east and south, you're treated to views of the city. With the beauty also came a bit of a warning. Mountain lions have been sighted in the area recently. I was hoping ... Read the Post...
Mountain Biking at Estrella Mountain Regional Park
I went on a mountain-biking adventure recently at Estrella Mountain Regional Park in the West Valley. The park is a gorgeous setting for mountain biking. You can also hike, go horseback riding, have a picnic, and lots more. It costs $6 per vehicle to get into Estrella Mountain Regional Park. The portion of the Coldwater Trail that I rode on seemed easy enough for a beginner like me. Check out the park's trails webpage for ... Read the Post...
Question: How did this Christmas tree get on Camelback Mountain?
If you've hiked Camelback recently, you've probably seen this tree. It was an unexpected treat to see it at the top. I wonder, is it still there? How did it get there? ... Read the Post...
Camping in Sedona
** This post contains affiliate links to camping supplies. Somewhere just off Forest Road 525 near Sedona lies a gorgeous site for camping. We waved to passers-by on Sedona Jeep tours as they admired our campsite. We just so happened to camp on a free weekend, but otherwise, be sure to get a Red Rock pass, which was about $5-6 and sold at many gas stations and stores in Sedona. I was given a newsletter with a map of where you can camp with the ... Read the Post...
Lakeshore Restaurant at Saguaro Lake
The view from the Lakeshore Restaurant, which overlooks Saguaro Lake, is lovely.Sit on the patio on the warmer days to take in the sights as you dine. Warning: You'll notice lots of hungry birds. If you'd like to see more, consider a Desert Belle boat cruise. Last year I found a Deal Chicken offer for two for about $24 including one drink per person. It's a leisurely way to spend an afternoon. The boat approaches the lake's towering cliffs for ... My first half: 3TV Phoenix 10K and Half Marathon
If someone would have told me two years ago I would go on to run a half marathon I wouldn't have believed it. I detested running. It's hard. But last year I adjusted my attitude and signed up for Pat's Run, mostly to force myself to get some exercise after sitting in a cubicle most of my week. The thrill of racing with thousands of others lured me in, and I kept it up. After successfully completing a 10K in March and somehow staying motivated ... Read the Post...
First Visit to Slide Rock State Park
Can you believe I've lived in Arizona my entire life and had never been to Slide Rock before last week? I crossed another Arizona destination off my list with a visit to this popular landmark, which was teeming with visitors, so many that each car had to wait until a car exited the parking lot to enter. (It didn't take long, maybe about 10 minutes.) I even cliff-jumped (scary): Cliff-jumping was a popular activity at Slide Rock that day, and ... Read the Post...
