When exercising, warming up and warming down are two of the most crucial parts of your exercise. However, it can be something that people avoid, whether that’s because they think they don’t need to do it or because it takes more time.
Not taking steps to aid recovery could impact your bodily health. Give your body the help it needs to recover properly and reduce the risk of strain and damage on the body in general. Here are some tips to help with recovery after exercise.
Rehydrate your body
Rehydrating the body is important to keep yourself properly hydrated for the rest of the day. Even when you’re no longer exercising, you’re still losing water content, which is why it’s important to keep yourself hydrated for the rest of the day.
The average person needs to be knocking back around 8 cups of water per day and more when you’re working out. During marathon training, however, I needed more. Every person is different so it’s essential to figure out your needs. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, you need 5 to 12 ounces of fluids every 15 to 20 minutes during a marathon.
Eat protein to repair the body
Proteins are good to get into your body after a workout to repair your muscles and provide you with more energy. Also, consuming healthy fats will lubricate your joints keeping them supple and safe.
While it can be good to eat healthily, you should also consider moderation as one of the most important parts of eating well. When you’re eating moderately for your weight and daily calorie intake, you’re going to make a better difference to your health.
Get plenty of sleep
Plenty of sleep is key when you’re trying to recover from exercise. The more sleep you get, the better you’re going to feel the next day. When you don’t get enough sleep, you’re not giving your body the time it needs to reset and recover from the intensity you put it through, regardless of how little or how much of a workout you did.
Take a warm bath
To aid the soreness that comes over you when you’re working out, take a nice warm bath. A warm bath can help you relax and unwind, letting the warm water relax those tense and worked muscles. Epsom salt can be handy to use in your bath, especially when it comes to easing muscle pains and strains.
Make use of compression boots
Finally, make use of compression boots. Compression boots are great for aiding recovery and helping with blood flow so that it removes the metabolic and lymphatic waste from your legs. This helps to reduce muscle soreness and speed up recovery times which can be helpful when doing regular exercise.
Helping with recovery after exercise is important so use these tips to ensure you look after your body properly.
