Spring is almost here and after the difficult winter we have all had and the newfound optimism the coronavirus vaccine has given us all, it is definitely cause for celebration. One of the best ways to welcome the new season is by spring cleaning your home. Yes, really. When your home is clean and tidy, your mind is much clearer and it’s a lot easier to relax, so spring cleaning your home really is giving yourself and your family a gift.
With that in mind, here are some tips to make spring cleaning a breeze in 2021:
Set a schedule
Creating a schedule of what you need to do and when you need to do it will take the headache out of deep cleaning your home and allow you to use your time more effectively. Going room by room tends to be easiest but you can group tasks by job-type if you prefer.
Declutter first
If your spring clean is going to include a declutter, it’s a good idea to get that out of the way first because, after all, if you have less stuff in your home, that means you have less stuff that you need to clean. Letting go of unnecessary things feels good.
Follow the top-to-bottom rule
When you’re cleaning your home this spring, be sure to follow the top-to-bottom rule. What’s that? The rule whereby you clean the top of the room aka the ceiling first, slowly working your way down to ground level. You need to do this because chances are, when you’re viewing stuff that’s high up, you’ll dislodge dirt and debris along the way, and if you’ve already cleaned the floors … well you’ll have wasted your time.

Remember windows and walls
A lot of people forget to clean their windows and walls when they’re done vacuuming and scrubbing floors, but windows and walls are just as likely to attract dust and debris as anything else in your home, and now that we all have to be extra careful due to coronavirus, it really is important to include them. A wet towel can work wonders removing dust from walls whereas a 1 part vinegar, 10 parts water solution is great for cleaning up windows.
Switch out seasonal stuff
Now is the perfect time to state packing away heavy bedding and winter furnishings in favor of lighter spring versions. Strip everything you don’t need off, wash it, hang it to dry, and place it in vacuum packs before placing it in the wardrobe or loft in room order, so that when you’re ready to use it again, it won’t be too much of a chore.
And don’t forget the outside
As well as cleaning your home’s interior it’s important that you take the time to rake your lawn, clean out the gutters, or have trusted gutter cleaning experts in your area clean them for you, patch up fences and interior paintwork and trim any bushes or trees that may be getting out of control. Do this stuff now and you can sit back and enjoy your garden in the pleasant spring and summer months.
I hope these tips will make your 2021 spring clean even better and even more efficient than in previous years. Enjoy the spring!
