Lately I’ve become tired of eating the same dishes every week for dinner, so I decided to reactivate my HelloFresh account. I’m excited to receive my next box next week because one of my favorite HelloFresh meals so far is on the menu. After my first box I ordered a few more and I’m sharing my thoughts on those recipes.
The options seem to have been updated. I have the Classic Plan for two people and I chose two meals for my most recent order. You can set a preference for vegetarian recipes. Other options include beef-free, pork-free or family-friendly. You can also choose to get boxes weekly, biweekly or monthly. One thing to note about the recipes is it includes ALMOST everything you need. You have to supply things like butter, oil, salt and pepper, though.
Cremini and Zucchini Spaghetti with Parmesan Garlic Bread:
I didn’t take a photo of this 30-minute recipe. I’ve had something like this before on my own but this one had chili flakes in the tomato sauce. I love spaghetti so you can’ really go wrong with this recipe. It wasn’t my favorite Hello Fresh recipe but it was good.
Sweet Potato Fajitas with Pepper Jack Cheese, Pickled Jalapeño, and Lime Crema:
Who doesn’t love fajitas? I liked this easy but tasty 35-minute recipe. It contains pickles jalapenos, which I would eat with every meal if I could. (I kinda wish they were already pickled though because I do not enjoy cutting them.) My husband is not the biggest sweet potato fan, though, so I’d rather not get too many sweet potato recipes. If you are a fan you will like these!
Chickpea-Powered Mediterranean Couscous with Zucchini and Heirloom Grape Tomatoes:
This is one of my favorite recipes. It takes 30 minutes and it’s similar to the Mediterranean Veggie recipe that was simply mouth-watering and delicious. I love their couscous recipes! And this one has feta. Yum!
Pasta Parmesan with Zucchini, Tuscan Herbs, and Marinara Sauce:
I could eat pasta every day. This 35-minute meal was tasty and easy to make. It’s a little spicy but I like that.
Asparagus Risotto with Garlic Herb Butter and Parmesan:
I thought this recipe was a bit more involved and not as easy as the others. It also took longer at 45 minutes. I was getting a bit impatient. But it tasted good!
Truffled Mushroom Flatbreads with Shallot and a Green Side Salad:
This was my least favorite recipe. It wasn’t bad; I’m just not a mushroom person. The side salad (lemony arugula) was nothing to write home about either. I ate it but I wouldn’t order this again. It took 30 minutes to make and was one of the easiest meals to make.
In my first post I mentioned not knowing how to change options in the menu selection but it’s easy to do now that I know how. You just have a limited time to make your choices before the box ships. It is still nice to not have to think about what to make for lunch or dinner during the busy workweek and I am not much of a meal planner yet. The nice part is you can pause your membership if the budget doesn’t allow a meal delivery service.
Based on my experience with this type of service, I know that ordering will create some waste. Hello Fresh bags remind you to reuse them, but all the other ingredients are often in a small package that will ultimately be thrown away. That’s something to consider. According to the website, Hello Fresh’s liners are made from FSC-certified sustainable cardboard and pulper-safe film and are fully recyclable. The ice packs are made “with a non-toxic salt solution. You can re-use them for a picnic or in a lunch box.”
