Baseball is all I can think about right now. The Cubs play in the NL Wild Card game against the Pirates tonight and I’m a nervous wreck. I dreamed about it all night. Seriously.
In fact, my life is all about baseball this year because I try to fully support my husband in his field. I also just really love watching baseball (in person). The last regular season game I went to was the Cubs vs. Brewers in Milwaukee last weekend. Graham and I were finally able to watch our first Cubs game together. We just had to drive to Wisconsin to do it.
The experience of watching a game at Wrigley vs. anywhere else is completely different. Wrigley, partly because of the history, is a special place. It’s also smaller than any other ballpark I’ve visited, which makes watching a game much more intimate.
Miller Park is an impressive stadium. There’s so much to look at and the field is well-maintained. I found myself looking around much more than paying attention to the game. One aspect that shocked me was having to wait in such a long line at each entrance to the game. You would think that lines would flow more smoothly in a venue of that size. I kept overhearing people say that security is heightened for Cubs games, but I don’t know if that’s true.
We finally made it inside in the second inning. The concourse is huge compared with Wrigley. It’s nice to have a little more breathing room. Cubs fans like us turned out in big numbers to watch the team beat the Brewers. But despite being fans of the opposing team, we were lucky enough to be given a tour of the awesome field.
