The last week of 2019 was all about just the four of us as a family. We had a lot of downtime instead of the typical busyness of the holidays, and that was a welcomed change. We spent time outdoors enjoying the 60-degree weather in Chicago before the actual winter weather hit and it gave us some hope despite some major letdowns lately that really had us feeling down. I’ve had some time to think about what I hope to gain in 2020: Clarity. For a few years now it’s felt as though my husband and I have not had a plan or vision for ourselves. We had a goal/plan and then we said yes to an opportunity in Chicago that was completely the opposite of what we intended. Now, after some disappointment in 2019, we are left asking, What now? We have some thinking to do to figure out what’s next for our family and our careers. It’s been a tough year and I’m ready for a fresh start. It’s fitting that 20/20 means perfect vision because in this new year I’d like a clearer sight of what we should be doing and more importantly, what we WANT to be doing. That’s why my guiding word for 2020 is clarity. Every goal I set this year will align with this intention and hopefully bring us closer to our ideal life.
My 2020 goals:
- Be more prepared and intentional when it comes to content planning and creating. I use a content planner to set ideas for posts, but executing that plan has been difficult. I need to be better about setting aside time for each task and about using childcare services to help me accomplish my goals (instead of feeling guilty about it).
- Train for two half-marathons and bring more fitness content back to the blog.
- Stick to my budget and savings goals by starting sinking funds for things like Christmas, birthdays and travel.
- Buy fewer things and have more experiences.
- Learn to let go when it comes to having a perfectly tidy home and life in general.
- Make more time for my passions. Also, figure out: What hobbies do I want to make time for?
- Be more aware and careful about the content I consume online and the amount of time I spend consuming it.
As you can see, each goal has to do with preparing for whatever changes we need to make in 2020 and beyond. One thing is certain for me: I don’t want to continuing in the exact situation and mental space I was in for much of 2019. I struggled with my mental health, motivation, and relationships and career aspirations, and I want to leave that in the past. What are your 2020 goals?
