An Upper Peninsula trip in June is relaxing and quiet. I found a dog-friendly cabin rental on Airbnb* and booked a couple of nights in Au Train. The cabin was part of a resort of cabins on Au Train Lake, Michigan. After booking I decided to stay another night, so I booked a separate stay in one of the other cabins (since it was booked the last night).
The first cabin was called Little Bear. It was on the end of the property and right off the road. The cabin has parking spaces right outside, along with a fire pit. The outdoor space is lovely!
Inside, the cabin is cozy. There’s a fireplace, but it’s more for aesthetics. The sofa pulls out for an extra sleeping space, and that’s where V slept. There was also a dining table (not pictured). We had Roku TV in the cabin, but the Internet service was spotty during our stay. It only really worked the first day and from then on we used our mobile hotspot on our phones. It was a blessing in disguise, though, because it allowed me to stay off social media, for the most part, and I had a nice mental break, which is what this vacation was all about.
The bathroom was tiny and it was located just off the kitchen. There’s a shower that would be a hard fit for a tall or larger person. Everything worked just fine, though!
I loved the view from the kitchen windows. I would love to live in the UP (in the summer)!
The bedroom with a queen-size bed and dresser was located off the living room. It also had a book shelf with several books to choose from. One downside of this cabin is that the bedroom is off the road, so you will hear any cars that drive by. There aren’t that many, but if you’re a light sleeper like me it’s something to note.
The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. Be sure to bring water if you don’t drink tap water. There are convenience stores nearby but they charge higher prices.

This was the inside of our second cabin, called Chipmunk. We stayed here for our final night at the resort. It was similarly decorated. But the bathroom in this cabin was nicer and larger.
The Chipmunk cabin had a twin bed as well as a queen bed.
Each cabin had a fire pit and chairs outside, so you could bring your own wood or buy some for about $7 a bundle at the resort. Also, insect repellant is a must in the Upper Peninsula. You can rent canoes, kayaks and boats just across the street, too!
The rental was $90 per night plus cleaning and service fees. This is a dog-friendly cabin, but there’s also a $30 pet fee per stay. The rental amounts vary. Note that the dog should also be on a leash while on the property.
