We needed to get away after a year of mostly being at home together. When the opportunity for a last-minute getaway presented itself, we promptly booked our Airbnb near the Red River Gorge and set off on our road trip to Kentucky.
The cabin we booked was located in Frenchburg, which is about a 30 minute drive to the Gorge, making it a good base location for the outdoor activities we hoped to do:
Family-friendly activities at Red River Gorge:
- SkyLift at Natural Bridge
- Hiking at Natural Bridge State Park
- Picnic at Natural Bridge State Park
- Drive through the Nada Tunnel
- Gorge Underground boat cruise or kayaking

The SkyLift is nerve-racking with small children, but we held onto them as tightly as we could. They loved every minute of the experience. The views from the lift were incredible. We also could not have chosen a more beautiful October day to visit.

Besides visiting the Gorge, we enjoyed our cabin, which had a short hike to a creek and small waterfall and a playset for the girls to play on. We watched movies and had dinner outdoors. We also lit a fire and roasted marshmallows while lounging on the Adirondack chairs in the backyard. The girls loved the cabin, and we hope to be able to take another relaxing trip soon. If you would like to book the cabin, check it out on Airbnb.
