My most recent Audible listen is “Judgment Detox: Release the Beliefs That Hold You Back From Living a Better Life” by Gabrielle Bernstein. If you’ve read my blog before, you might know I am a huge fan of self-improvement books and I’ve already listened to “The Universe Has Your Back” by Bernstein.
Out of the self-help books I’ve read, I have found this to be one of the most helpful. It centers around her six-step process for letting go of judgment. She includes guided meditations that you can come back to whenever you need. Her voice is relaxing, so I enjoyed being guided in meditation by her. She also tells/shows you how to practice tapping to find relief in times of stress and conflict. She doesn’t mean for you to read this book once and forget about it. She gives a series of steps to practice regularly for the rest of your life.
What I found most insightful and helpful is the reminder that what annoys you about someone else is a mirror of yourself. It doesn’t make sense at first, but she explains it thoroughly, and when you practice the teachings in “Judgment Detox” you can see how returning to love and freedom is the answer. You can find compassion for people you thought you would have never been able to feel sympathy for. (This is especially relevant at a time when our nation is so divided.) She shares specific times at which she has judged, how she realized this and what she learned. No one is perfect!
She also writes about how to practice forgiveness. She talks about people who have learned to forgive for unforgivable acts. It seems impossible, but she explains how it isn’t if we let go of judgment. “In the energy of forgiveness, judgment cannot co-exist.” Even minor annoyances are just opportunities to forgive.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and felt it gave helpful tips for releasing judgment and living a more peaceful life. I felt like I learned more than many other self-improvement books I’ve read.
Have you picked up “Judgment Detox”? What did you think, if so?

This book sounds so interesting!! I have heard several times that when you do not like something in someone, that it is a reflection of yourself. Not sure how I feel about that exactly because most of the time when I don’t like people, it’s because they are complete opposite of me (not that I can’t get along with others that are different but just behaviors, etc that drive me crazy). I will have to check this out soon!
