If you’re like a lot of people, then you might have recently been looking at side gigs to help you make a little extra cash on the side. With the right opportunity, you might even turn it into a more permanent career change. If you have a car and you like to drive, then what’s to stop you from making some money from it? Well, you need an idea of how, exactly, you’re going to make money in the first place. Here are a few ideas for a driving side gig to keep in mind:
The not-taxi approach
Though the nature of driving for such companies might be changing in the near future, rideshare apps (which are effectively freelance taxi-driving apps) have allowed a lot of people, just about anyone with a car, to start making a little extra money. The basic gist is that you get notifications on where to pick up people, take them where they want to go, and then get paid through the app. Typically, to succeed in this field, you want to focus on providing a good service to increase your rating so that you get picked for more driving gigs. If you’re willing to be more flexible, driving at times of high demand can help you earn extra, as well.
See it delivered
If you’re not exactly quite as fond of driving around with other people in your vehicle, then you don’t necessarily have to go that route, either. With the increasing reliance on online shopping for all sorts of goods, there is also a heightened demand for delivery drivers who are willing to use their wheels to see items from A to B. You can work in deliveries even if you have a regular car, with sites that let you search through hundreds of loads to find the one that you’re able to carry. However, if you’re able to drive vehicles that can carry more cargo, such as vans, then you could potentially make more for every trip, as well. You can also grocery shop for people through various services and deliver the goods to their doorstep.
Become a driving billboard
There is another option that might not be quite as common, but that might still be available to you if you live in an area that’s particularly well populated. You can have advertising put on your car (temporarily, in most cases) and then get paid to drive the car around in certain areas, usually where most people are able to see it. It’s a form of marketing, much like a billboard, but aimed more at pedestrians than other drivers. You might get paid simply for driving where you normally would, so long as you drive a certain amount of miles and at least you don’t have to dedicate any space in the car to other people or objects.
Your ability to make money driving will be determined not just by your availability, but also by what vehicles you can drive. If you want to make more money from a driving side gig, it pays to gain the licenses you need to take on more jobs. Have you considered taking a side gig?
