We made a last minute decision to drive down to Louisville, Kentucky, for the weekend to visit Graham’s parents. To break up the drive back on Sunday we decided to check out Joe Huber’s Family Farm & Restaurant, which is about 40 minutes outside of Louisville.
We had our dog, Capone, so we couldn’t do all of the activities, but we wanted the girls to pick up little pumpkins and I wanted apple cider doughnuts for the ride back. We also didn’t have room in the car for any large pumpkins. (FYI: The farm is dog-friendly but pets aren’t allowed on the wagons or in the U-Pick areas.)
Huber’s was a nice place to spend a Sunday morning, but it’s a madhouse! SO many people had the same idea to pick a pumpkin that day. The wagons were pretty much nonstop in driving people over to the patch. Parking was easy and free, and so was the admission. My suggestion would be to arrive as early as possible. (FYI: Hours are 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday–Thursday and 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.)
Something that I liked about Huber’s was that a portion of all U-Pick sales benefit the WHAS Crusade for Children.
Huber’s is somewhere I’d like to visit again for its winery (nearby) and apparently there is also a distillery, which you can tour. Also, the line for apple picking was much shorter than the pumpkin patch wagon line.
Our apple cider doughnuts were $15 for a dozen and they were made fresh in front of you as you wait in line. Pumpkin doughnuts were also available. They were the perfect treat for the rest of our drive through Indiana to Chicago (aka Skokie).
Have you been to Huber’s in the fall? Besides pumpkin and apple picking, you can visit the restaurant or farm market. I suggest it if you visit Louisville or Southern Indiana!
