My goal in 2020 has been to increase my blog traffic, so when the opportunity to participate in a 30-day challenge to do just that, I jumped at the chance. I recently finished reading Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers by Russell Brunson, who created this challenge. By completing the 30-day challenge along with this book, I’m learning key strategies to increase my site traffic.
Brunson is an entrepreneur behind ClickFunnels who has written books about direct marketing techniques and traffic strategies. One thing he advocates is sales funnels. I did not know much about funnels when I began reading this book, but I have already gained valuable insights into how to increase my reach and engagement with my dream customer, aka reader. I also had no idea about follow-up funnels and their importance.
I’ve heard about the importance of building a newsletter, but it wasn’t until I read this book that I could understand why. “Your list is your key to your current and future success online.” This was a reminder that I need to work on my newsletter! If I were to lose a platform, I would still have my subscribers and would be able to reach them directly. I also need to work on narrowing down my list of who are my Dream 100, which Brunson explains in the book.

Another important aspect to improving traffic is consistency. I have strived to post consistently every week since I began my blog, though in recent weeks I have gotten off track. So far I have found many important reminders about marketing in Traffic Secrets. To work your way into the crowd of the customers you want on various social media sites, Brunson gives practical advice, like model, don’t copy. This means you want to model the content that is working for your Dream 100 (who are serving your dream customers/readers) and thus rewarded by the algorithms. It’s doesn’t mean exact copying but inspiration. “To have success on Instagram or on any platform, you have to be you,” he writes. I couldn’t agree more! Also, if you provide value for free, people will then proceed to your site or channel or podcast and possibly maybe even purchase your products.
One of my tasks during this has been to figure out my five main categories on Instagram and cycle through them intentionally. I still need to work on this. Brunson provides a chart specifically for Instagram showing a pubishing plan for success. I will use this as inspiration to improve my engagement there.
The book is designed to be a “playbook” that you can reference over and over again, so because I still have work to do to narrow my Dream 100, I can go back to that section of the book.
